Four Hair Products Essential For Lasting Volume

Four Hair Products Essential For Lasting Volume

Introducing Volume 101

Whilst Gretchen Wieners’ hair may be full of secrets mine is solely packed with volumising products. I have listed my four favourite drug-store hair products that keep roots lifted, curls bouncy and blowdries lasting that extra day. Don’t be sweating on this blow-out.

Firstly can we applaud my efforts to quote not only Mean Girls, but also Beyonce in the same heading?

Ok, moving on.

If there’s one thing I have mastered over the years it’s big hair! Admittedly, my hair may be thicker than most but it has thinned-out over the years due to excessive heat exposure, styling, colouring – you name it, my poor hair has been through it. The products I’ve listed can be used at various stages of your haircare routine i.e. some are perfect for “on-the-go” whilst others are great for styling, so please don’t use them all at once! They’re all reasonably priced and available to buy at most drug-stores so if you’re looking to go big, then give some of these a try.

It’s also worth noting that I’m not wearing hair extensions in this picture – the volume is down to the products I’ve listed.

Small Talk Bed HeadSmall Talk Volumizing Cream, Tigi

  • Ideal for people with very fine hair
  • Apply to damp hair
  • Great for adding volume to ends

I go in quite heavy with this product and apply 2-3 pumps to the mid-lengths and ends of my hair before blow drying. It makes my hair instantly thicker, especially towards ends and I’ve noticed that my curls/waves last a lot longer when using this cream. Despite its slippery silicon texture, it’s non-sticky and doesn’t weigh the hair down like other volumising creams. It keeps hair frizz-free and gives great body – a real winner in my eyes. If it works well for my mid-length hair I imagine it would work wonders for shorter cropped and bob styles.

Superstar bed headSuperstar Queen For A Day, Tigi

  • Great for all hair types
  • Apply roots when hair is damp
  • Great for root lifting

Think of this product as a blow-dry lotion – it’s heat activated so will only work if you apply to damp hair before blow-drying. Opt for this product if you want offensively big hair (that’s not intended as a negative connotation) – it will give your hair body, lift and volume. The only downfall for me is that I don’t like the texture of my hair the next day after using this product so I sometimes add oil to the ends to smooth things over until the next wash.

Dry Shampoo BatisteDry Shampoo, Batiste

  • Great for all hair types
  • Spray to dry hair
  • Refreshes hair in between washes
  • Adds instant body and texture

This is a product that I can’t be without. Dry shampoo has saved me on endless occasions when the thought of washing my hair at 5:45 am is too much to handle. Dry shampoo is the perfect product to refresh hair and delay dreaded washing days by at least two days – it absorbs the excess oil on your scalp so that your hair feels clean and lifted. I also like to use dry shampoo to add texture and lift to newly washed hair – I’m personally not a fan of just-washed hair, I’m more of a second or third day kind of girl!

Batiste has always been the brand of choice for me when it comes to dry shampoo – it’s affordable, widely available and does the job well! Yes, I like the fancy brands like Ouai and Aveda but honestly, they’re not worth the additional spend when Batiste dry shampoo offers the same results for a fraction the price. I’m really enjoying using the cherry flavour at the moment but my ultimate favourite are the ones with a hint of colour – I opt for ‘Divine Dark’ or ‘Brilliant Brunette’.

Batiste xxl volumeXXL Plumping Powder, Batiste

  • Great for all hair types
  • Apply to dry hair
  • Adds instant volume from the root

Just remember one thing – a little goes a long way so use sparingly! Apply to the root of the hair and tease until you get the desired height and body. I swear by this product for nights out – it keeps volume intact the whole night and can withstand summer humidity. The only downfall is that it can be ‘tacky’ the next day other than that, a winning product and one essential for volume.

If you try any of these products I’d love to know what you think!

Love, Amy X
